My first MBTs; these mary janes work for me and I have chubby feet. I do not find the straps too short and the heel does not slip up and down. I went with my regular shoe size even though I understand most people go a size up. They feel a little tight when standing, but when walking they are like extensions of my feet and feel great. I bought them in Seattle, walked (rolled) out of the store with them on and walked around the city the rest of the day. They did not take any "getting used to." (I had been wearing more fashionable, but still practical shoes and my feet were aching.) A few days later I walked 3.5 miles uphill and downhill in them with no problems. Usually, my hip bothers me for the last mile or so, but not with these shoes on! And the walk went faster than usual and was much more fun. I got them in denim and they look great with dark jeans. I have suffered from ball of foot pain for for over 2 years. I have been to the podiatrist and to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet. I have had various physical therapies. Ortho pads have helped especially the "dancer pad" from Hapad, but despite my efforts, walking was something to be avoided, and so many things I once enjoyed doing were now out of the question. This is a great sneaker that lives up to it's word. However, you must absolutly buy a larger size because these shoes run SMALL! One half size larger will work for you. I had to return my original order in exchange for a larger size, and that was a bit of a hassel.

OK, so we know that if you tow just about anything around behind a game fishing boat in the South Pacific, eventually, a blue marlin is going to take a look and have a go.

That being said, most of us dont have the time nor the inclination to spend a week trolling a pineapple wrapped in tinfoil just to see what happens.

Guests going fishing aboard Bite Me rely on the crew to assess the conditions, select the best areas, find the bait and troll the lures most likely to raise a blue.

Over the years we have tried and tested a wide variety of lures and have established a fairly productive spread which forms the basis of any blue marlin hunt.

We usually start off with the basics and then tweak this to match the prevailing conditions or swap one or more lures to cover all our bases, i.e. run lures that simulate the baitfish we believe the marlin are hunting.

Say, for example you are out trolling on the Kadavu trench and you come across a school of skipjack tuna feeding on the surface.

We would immediately check to make sure we had at least one lure out that imitates a wounded skipjack. Its a big empty ocean. Any marlin in the area is going to be focused on the skipjack and will probably ignore everything else.

Match the hatch as the freshwater fly fishermen are fond of saying. Its just as appropriate to hunting marlin as when casting flies to a brown trout.

The following is a sample of our basic starting blue marlin lure spread from left to right):

• Black Bart Hot breakfast
• Joe Yee Apollo (Evil skirt)
• John Lau Talibung
• Top Gun Ball-bearing Nightmare
• Pakula Rat
• Hollowpoint Cabo Killa

I have laid them out in roughly the usual positions. The smaller lures on either side usually work best and are most productive when run from the outriggers. The larger lures in the centre are usually run from the corners, closer in to the transom.

• Joe Yee Apollo in 'Evil' - Sliced face lure - Short rigger - Probably one of the best blue marlin lures in existance. Immitates a skipjack tuna

• Top Gun Ball-bearing Nightmare - Sliced faced head that rotates to maintain the ideal head angle - Short Corner - All weather - First grander in Vanuatu
• Pakula Rat - Pusher style with concave head - All positions, generally Short or Long Corner - An aggressive lure with large diving bubble trail
• Hollowpoint Cabo Killa - Sliced face lure - Long Rigger - Medium bubble trail, good immitation of a skipjack tuna

This spread works well for us in Fiji and has accounted for numerous blues. We do of course have a large selection of other lures aboard our gamefishing vessels but you have to start somewhere. We vary colours a little throughout the year according to the baitfish present and are happy to take 'lure requests' from angling guests but as a starting point the above spread will have you off on the right track.

If you are thinking or trying out a couple of new lures in your spread, I can safely say that any of the above lures would be well worth a run.pa

Here's a bit of trivia about NYC fashion; did you know that the name for nylon stockings was originally derived from New York and London - the two cities where this useful material was first developed as an alternative to silk?

Actually, although this is a popular explanation for the etymolgy of the word "nylon," there's little historical evidence to support it. Nonetheless, it is a colorful story - but no less than the story of the NYC fashion scene as a whole.

Although Paris is often seen as the center of the fashion world, the garment industry has had a long presence in the Empire State, and New York City in particular. Entire districts were once given over to the small tailor's shops, haberdasheries and clothing stores that werer the forerunner of the modern NYC fashion industry.

Of course, the NYC fashion scene is more than designers and manufacturers of clothing - much more. Those who work behind the scenes - textile designers, photographers and the editors and publishers of NYC fashion-oriented literature and periodicals often make significant contributions toward determining what the "in" crowd will be wearing this season, even when these contributions are not generally recognized by the public at large.

What is interesting about the fashion world in general and NYC fashion in particular is the fact that it has virtually always been dominated by women. From the earliest fashion designers of 18th-Century London to the most recent cutting-edge NYC fashion design houses of mid-town Manhattan, it is women designers who have traditionally set the pace and tone for each season. Currently at New York's Fashion Institute of Technology Museum, an exhibit running through the beginning of November 2008 meticulously recounts the history of women's fashion design, of which the NYC fashion scene is but a part. What is most interesting is that the designs of these women are generally conversative, understated and tasteful; the garish and often bizarre creations that are seen from time to time in NYC fashion industry trade shows are usually the creation of men, attempting to design clothing for women (with a fair amount of chemical assistance, one suspects).

Sometimes of course, these florid designs have their use; the late Ert ("R.T." in French, for "Roman Tyrtov"), whose lavish costumes graced many of Ziegfield's girls during the 1920s, the style of which set the tone of "art deco" in terms of NYC fashion, was one of those rare male designers whose sense of fashion had a profound effect on the NYC fashion scene in general.

Women who look wistfully at NYC fashion longing to be part of it but perhaps lack the wherewithal should not despair, but consider the words of Ert, who said: "A resourceful woman who is almost downright plain can achieve the reputation of a beauty simply by announcing to everybody she meets that she is one." It's about 22 inches in length (depending on how you trim the skirt) this lure is an absolute MONSTER. Its the biggest lure we run on Bite Me here in Fiji and is in fact even larger than some of our teasers.

When we fish heavy tackle and troll lures for marlin, this is our automatic go to selection for the short corner position. Its a pusher style concave face lure which really punches its way through the water and repeatedly dives well under the prop wash. Its serious weight and length makes it stable in all weather conditions and therefore easy to run. No fiddling about trying to find the working tow height and drop back length just put it where you want it and it will smoke a big and I do mean BIG bubble trail up and down through the wash. Not only is it a screaming grander lure, its also a great big teaser for those days when there are just little blues about.

There is some debate as to what BFG stands for. I believe it stands for Big Friendly Giant though most of my guests, upon seeing it, substitute a rather more colourful word in place of friendly.

Tips I would not run this lure on anything less than one of our 80lb bent butt chair rods. Unbelievably, this lure has drawn strikes from fish as small as 150lbs. Just because a grander doesnt climb on every day, dont be tempted to change down to a smaller sized lure. This lure is as good as any teaser in the wake and will draw in all sizes of marlin. Run it as a teaser but be prepared for something huge to climb on board.

I bought these shoes in October because I was absolutely desperate for a pair of shoes I could wear to comfortably walk around New York City during an upcoming trip. My feet hurt all the time - like another reviewer, I am also overweight and any shoe has just been unbearable to stand in for any extended length of time. As soon as I tried on this MBT, I knew it was for me. I immediately felt as though I had no weight on my feet at all. The rocking motion did take a few moments to get used to but I loved the shoe so much, I wore it out of the store and I have not wanted to take it off since. I had no trouble keeping with my friends in New York and no trouble going up and down subway steps either. The only issues I have are 1) why are some MBT's $300 and other $100? They seem to have the same built in technology. 2) After 4 months of wear, although the shoes are still extremely comfortable, I'm concerned that they have already flattened out and no longer have that rocking motion. I'm not happy about the fact that I paid $300 for these shoes and that the technology used in making the shoes doesn't last longer than that. However, I still love them and wear them every day and feel resentful when I have to put soemthing els eon my feet.

I have been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I can hardly walk down the block without crumpling in pain. Before I bought the shoes I checked out the website - pretty informative. Before hanging your suit jackets into your wardrobe, it will be advisable to use the clothes brush to brush them frequently after wearing. It helps to removes dirt and lint buildup on the suit. It also helps to rejuvenate the wool and prevent it from shining.

If a hanger is not available, fold your suit jackets inside out with shoulders touching. By doing so, it prevents any possible dirt or lint staining on the outer fabric of the suit. Then either lay the suit jacket flat or drape it over a chair.

I ordered these becasue I've heard such good things about them from other wearers. Didn't take long for me to break in, but once I got going, I quickly started feeling the burn in the upper thighs and calf area. One to caution..this shoe does run small. I normally wear a size 11 in women shoes, but becasue of the rocking motion backwards, my toes rammed into the front of the shoe quite often. I would suggest for women who wear an 11 to go with a Men's size 9.5 for more room. Otherwise, was quite satisfied with my purchase

These shoes are AMAZING. I'm 57, 50# overweight and work at a hospital where I put in six 12 hour shifts, then have 8 days off. On hard floors I average 6-8 miles of walking a night. I have one flat foot and one with a good arch. My flat foot starts to ache about 1/2 way through the shift. So I and others in this profession have tried just about every new idea that comes down the pike. Z-coils worked well but eventually I settled in to Crocs because of their comfort & coolness- you can take them off easily and so when you sit you can slip out of them and let your feet cool off. But then several of us tried MBTs. I couldn't believe it- no pain in my feet whatsoever, even after long shifts. I found myself on my feet more and moving around. I guess some folk take a few tries at them before they get used to them but I found the day I bought them I could float around in them without any mishap. They do feel different- all your weight seems to be centered in the middle of your foot- kind of a rocker feeling which forces you to keep your balance. Not a shoe to run in but for standing & walking they seem to be the best shoe out there. Until something better comes along I'll be wearing these while I work and at home whenever I'm on my feet for a long time.
